Is an iOS app worth it for you? Check your users first

An iPhone app is a separate build with its own store account, review process and updates. It is worth paying for when a meaningful share of the people who will use it carry iPhones or iPads. Guesswork is the usual mistake: an owner who uses an iPhone assumes the customers do too, or the opposite. You can find out with information you already have.

  • Website visitors: if your website has analytics, the device or operating system report shows how many visitors come from iPhones.
  • Customers at the counter: ask the front desk to note the phone type of customers for two weeks, or add the question to a feedback form.
  • Staff phones: if the app is for your team, count the phones they actually carry, or check which phones the company issues.
  • Who pays: in some businesses, a smaller group of iPhone users makes many of the bookings. That can justify an iOS app even when they are not the majority.
What you findWhat usually makes sense

The Apple Developer Program: what your organisation sets up

To publish on the App Store, you need a membership of the Apple Developer Program. It is an annual paid membership, so it has to be renewed every year to keep the app available. We do not quote the fee because Apple sets it and can change it. You can check the current amount on Apple’s site.

You can enrol as an individual or as an organisation. For a business app, we recommend enrolling as an organisation, so the App Store shows your organisation’s name as the seller instead of a person’s name. For organisation enrolment, Apple asks for a D-U-N-S number for your legal entity and confirms that the person enrolling has the authority to agree to Apple’s terms for the organisation. Apple may also ask for an official website and email address. If you do not have a D-U-N-S number yet, getting one can take some time, so start this step early, alongside design, not after the app is ready.

Once the membership is active, you stay the Account Holder and invite our developers with team roles. We never need your Apple ID password. How that access works in practice is explained on our page for working with an iOS app developer in Ranchi.

App Store review: what Apple checks

Apple reviews every new app and every update against its App Store Review Guidelines before release. Review is stricter than many owners expect, and first submissions are sometimes sent back with questions. Rejections usually come from preparation, not from the idea, so we build the following into the project.

What Apple looks atWhat we prepare with you
A complete, working appNo placeholder text, broken links or unfinished screens in the submitted build.
Access for the reviewerA demo login and short review notes, so Apple can see the screens behind sign-in.
PrivacyA privacy policy link and the App Privacy details in App Store Connect, matching what the app really collects.
Permission messagesClear text explaining why the app asks for the camera, location or notifications.
Account deletionIf users can create an account in the app, a way to delete that account from within the app.
More than a websiteFeatures that justify an app. A plain copy of your website inside an app is likely to be rejected.
PaymentsThe right payment method for what is sold. Apple treats digital content differently from physical goods and real-world services such as clinic appointments.

Apple updates its guidelines from time to time. We check the current version before each submission rather than relying on what passed last year.

TestFlight: testing before the public sees the app

TestFlight is Apple’s tool for sharing test builds. Your staff install the TestFlight app, accept an invitation, and get the test version of your app on their own iPhones. People in your App Store Connect team can test straight away. Builds for wider groups of outside testers first go through a beta review by Apple. Test builds expire after a set period, so testing is planned in rounds.

Think of a diagnostic centre in Ranchi adding home sample collection booking. In the first TestFlight round, the front desk books test appointments, a phlebotomist checks the day’s pickup list, and two regular patients try booking from home. They find that the address screen does not suit Ranchi’s mohalla-style addresses with landmarks. That gets fixed before Apple ever sees the app, and before a real patient struggles with it.

iPhone and Android together

Most organisations that need an iOS app also need Android. The two apps are separate builds, but they can share one backend through REST APIs, so a booking made on an iPhone appears on the same admin screen as one made on Android. Some things still differ: how notifications are allowed, how permissions are asked, and Apple’s rule that apps offering certain third-party logins must also offer an equally private sign-in option. Our page on choosing Android, iOS or both explains native and cross-platform approaches, and our post comparing Android and iOS app development covers the trade-offs. For Android publishing, see our Android app development company in Ranchi page.

When an iOS app is not the right next step

If only a few of your users carry iPhones, a separate iOS build may not pay back yet. Start with Android or a mobile-friendly website and keep the backend ready for iOS later. If your organisation is not willing to hold its own Apple Developer membership, we advise waiting: publishing a business app under someone else’s account causes problems later. And if the app would mostly show information that already sits on your website, Apple may reject it anyway, and a better mobile-friendly business website is the cheaper fix.

How MATROP runs an iOS project

  1. We meet in Ranchi or on a call, check your users’ devices together, and agree on iOS only or iOS with Android.
  2. You start Apple Developer Program enrolment while we write the scope: screens, roles, sign-in method and payment flow.
  3. We build the app and its backend, and share TestFlight builds in rounds with your staff and a few real users.
  4. We prepare the listing, privacy details and review notes, then submit and handle any questions from Apple.
  5. After release, we train your staff and keep the app working through new iOS versions and Apple requirement changes.

Frequently asked questions

MATROP Private Limited in Ranchi, Jharkhand builds iPhone and iPad apps for bookings, approvals, reports, orders and member services, together with the backend they use. The same team can build the Android version on the same system, so both apps show the same data. The Apple account steps are explained before work starts, so enrolment does not hold up the launch.

If your website has analytics, its device or operating system report shows how many visitors come from iPhones. You can also ask the front desk to note customers' phone types for a short period, or count the phones your staff actually carry if the app is for your team. Also look at who pays: a smaller group of iPhone users who make many bookings can justify an iOS app even when they are not the majority.

Publishing on the App Store needs a membership of the Apple Developer Program, which is paid yearly and must be renewed to keep the app available. For a business app, MATROP recommends enrolling as an organisation so the App Store shows your organisation as the seller, and Apple asks for a D-U-N-S number and confirms the enrolling person's authority. Because getting a D-U-N-S number can take time, start enrolment while the scope and design are being prepared, not after the app is ready.

Apple reviews every new app and update against its App Store Review Guidelines, checking for a complete working app, a demo login for the reviewer, privacy details that match what the app collects, clear permission messages, in-app account deletion where users can create accounts, and features beyond a copy of a website. It also checks that the payment method suits what is sold, since digital content is treated differently from physical goods and real-world services. MATROP Private Limited prepares these with you, but Apple makes the decision and approval cannot be promised.

TestFlight is Apple's tool for sharing test builds: testers install the TestFlight app, accept an invitation and get the test version on their own iPhones. People in your App Store Connect team can test straight away, while builds for wider groups of outside testers first go through a beta review by Apple. Test builds expire after a set period, so MATROP plans testing in rounds with your staff and a few real users.
