What an Android app from MATROP does for a business
An Android app is worth building when people need to finish a task on their phone and the result has to land in your business records. A salesman books an order at a shop counter. A technician closes a service visit with a photo. A parent checks a fee receipt. A staff member marks attendance at a site. We build that app, and we also build the part most people never see: the server, the database, the admin panel and the REST APIs that carry data between the phone and your office.
Take a distributor in Ranchi with salesmen covering shops in Ramgarh, Khunti and Lohardaga. Today the orders arrive by phone call and WhatsApp photo, and someone in the office types them in again. With an Android app, the salesman picks the shop, adds items from the current price list and submits. The order reaches the billing screen in the office, and the owner sees which shops were visited that day. The app is useful only because it shares one set of records with billing, so we scope the two together, whether the system behind it is a MATROP product, an existing system with an API, or new software built through our custom software development service.
Your Google Play Console account
To publish an app on Google Play, someone must hold a Google Play Console developer account. Google charges a one-time registration fee for this account, and the account holder accepts Google’s developer terms and policies. We do not quote the fee because Google sets it and can change it. You can check the current amount and the sign-up steps in the Play Console Help Centre.
We advise opening the account in your organisation’s name, with an official email address, and keeping ownership with you. Play Console lets the owner invite other people and give them only the permissions they need. Our developers can then upload builds and manage the store listing without owning your app. If a developer publishes your app from their own account instead, moving it to your account later goes through Google’s app transfer process, and that needs the developer’s co-operation. Our page on hiring an Android app developer in Ranchi covers ownership and handover in more detail.
An organisation account asks for more verification than a personal one. Google may ask for business details, such as a D-U-N-S number, and verifies identity and contact information. Google has also added extra testing steps for some newly created personal accounts before an app can be released to everyone. These rules change, so we check the current requirements with you at the start. We do not promise a launch date that ignores them.
Play policies and app review
Google checks every new app and update against its developer policies before publishing it. Delays usually come from the details below, so we prepare them during the build, not on the last day.
| What Google looks at | What we prepare with you |
|---|---|
| Privacy policy | A privacy policy page on your website that matches what the app really collects, such as phone numbers, location or photos. |
| Data safety section | The Play Console declaration of what data the app collects, why, and whether it is shared. We fill it in from the actual app and you confirm it. |
| Sensitive permissions | Google restricts some permissions, such as background location and SMS access, and may ask why the app needs them. We request only what the task needs. |
| Login for the reviewer | If the app needs a login, a test account so the reviewer can see the screens behind it. |
| Target Android version | Google expects new apps and updates to target a recent Android version within its published deadlines. We keep this in the support plan. |
| Store listing | An accurate app name, description, icon and screenshots, with no claims the app cannot back up. |
Policy details and deadlines change during the year. Google emails the account owner about any issue. That is one more reason the account should be in your name, with someone who reads those emails and forwards them to us.
Built for the phones your users actually carry
An app that runs smoothly on a developer’s new phone can still fail on a delivery boy’s three-year-old handset with full storage. Android in India runs on a very wide range of phones: many screen sizes and manufacturers, older Android versions still in daily use, and phones with little memory. Some manufacturers add battery savers that stop apps running in the background, which matters for location tracking and reminders.
Before coding, we agree in writing the oldest Android version the app will support and the phones it will be tested on, ideally the actual phones your staff or customers use. We test on older and low-cost handsets, on weak mobile data, and with the larger font sizes many users keep. If people work where the signal drops, such as godowns, highways or villages outside Ranchi, we decide which entries the phone can save and send later, and which must wait for a connection.
Play Store or APK for a staff-only app
Not every Android app needs a public listing. If only your own field staff will use it, there are three ways to get it onto their phones.
| Option | How it works | Suits | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Public Play Store listing | Anyone can find and install the app. Updates arrive through Google Play. | Customer apps, and staff apps where being visible does no harm because a login protects the data. | Full Play review and policies apply to every update. |
| Private distribution through Google Play | Testing tracks limited to chosen users, or private apps through managed Google Play for organisations that manage company phones. | Staff-only apps where you want automatic updates without a public listing. | The right route depends on how your phones are managed. Testing tracks are meant for testing, so we check the current options with you. |
| Direct APK install | We give you an installable file and staff allow installation from that source on their phone. | Pilots, small teams and company-owned phones. | Each update has to be installed again on every phone. The signing key must be kept safe. Google has announced developer verification for apps installed outside Play on certified Android phones, rolling out in stages. |
When you do not need an Android app yet
An app should do a job a website or a message cannot. If customers only need to read about your services and call you, a mobile-friendly website does that for less. If the real need is to send fee reminders, delivery updates or appointment alerts, the WhatsApp Business API may be enough on its own. If many of your customers use iPhones, or you need both platforms from day one, read our guide on choosing Android, iOS or both first. We would rather say this in the first meeting than build an app nobody opens.
How an Android project runs with us
- Meet us at our Ranchi office or on a call. Tell us who will use the app, what they must finish on the phone, and where the records live today.
- Get a written scope listing the screens, user roles, oldest supported Android version, test phones, distribution route, and what is left for a later version.
- We build or connect the backend and APIs, then share builds that your staff try on their own phones with real tasks.
- We release the app in your Play Console account or as a private install, and train the people who will use it.
- After go-live, we handle fixes, Android and Play requirement updates, and new features as agreed changes.
