Why a fair price needs your list first
If you are a Ranchi business owner collecting website quotes, the honest answer to "how much will it cost?" is that it depends on what is written inside the quote. A five-page site with your own text is a different job from a twenty-page site with new writing, a booking form and a year of updates. This article shows you what a quote should contain, why two designers in the same city can quote very differently for what sounds like the same website, and which questions make the comparison fair.
We do not give rupee figures here, because any number without your page list would be a guess. By the end you should be able to put two or three quotes side by side and see exactly what each one buys. If you want the wider picture of what drives website cost anywhere in India, read our breakdown of website cost factors alongside this one.
The line items you should expect in a website quote
A quote that only says "business website, 5 pages" and a total leaves you guessing. A useful quote breaks the job into parts. Not every project needs every line below, but each one should either appear in the quote or be clearly marked as not included.
| Line item | What it usually covers | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Page list (sitemap) | The named pages: home, about, each service, contact, gallery and so on | Which pages exactly, and what does an extra page cost later? |
| Design | Layout, colours, fonts and how the pages look on phone and desktop | Is this a ready theme adjusted for us, or designed from scratch? How many rounds of changes? |
| Content writing | Text for each page, written or edited by the designer | Who writes the service pages? Is Hindi text included if we need it? |
| Photos and graphics | Stock images, edited photos of your premises, icons, banners | Are stock images licensed? Is a photo shoot included or extra? |
| Domain | Your web address, such as yourbusiness.in | Whose name will it be registered in, and what is the yearly renewal? |
| Hosting and SSL | Server space where the site lives, plus the security certificate (https) | For how long is hosting included, and what does renewal cost? |
| Enquiry tools | Contact form, tap-to-call button, WhatsApp button, map | Where will form enquiries arrive: email, WhatsApp or both? |
| Online store | Product catalogue, cart, payment gateway, order management | Is this a full store or just a product display with an enquiry button? |
| Basic SEO setup | Page titles, descriptions, headings, sitemap file, Search Console | Which of these exactly? Is ongoing SEO a separate service? |
| Training and handover | Showing you how to edit text and photos, sharing logins | Will we get the admin, hosting and domain logins at launch? |
| Maintenance | Updates, backups, small edits after launch | Is any free support period included? What does a yearly plan cover? |
If a line is missing, do not assume it is included. Ask. A short written reply from the designer is worth more than a verbal "yes, that is covered".
Why two Ranchi quotes for "the same website" look so different
Imagine a coaching institute that asks two local designers for a website. One quote is about a third of the other. Usually neither designer is cheating; they have simply priced different jobs. Here are the most common reasons.
Different page counts hiding behind the same words
"Five pages" from one designer may mean home, about, courses, gallery and contact, with all eight courses squeezed onto one page. The other may have planned a separate page for each course so that parents searching for a particular course land on the right page. The second plan is more work and usually more useful.
One quote includes writing, the other expects you to supply text
Writing clear service pages takes time. If the lower quote says "content to be provided by client", you are doing that work yourself, and the site will wait until you finish it.
Hosting, domain and support bundled in one quote but not the other
A quote that includes the first year of hosting, the domain and a few months of support will look higher than a design-only quote. Compare like with like by separating these lines before you compare totals.
Template adjusted versus design made for you
A ready theme with your logo and colours is quicker to deliver. An original design is planned around your services and customers. Both are legitimate choices, but the quote should say which one you are paying for.
A store or booking system that only one designer noticed
If you mentioned that customers might want to order or book online, one designer may have priced an online store while the other priced a simple enquiry form. Clarify which you actually need right now.
Costs that usually sit outside the first quote
Many owners compare the launch price and are then surprised in the second year. These items are often not part of the design quote, so ask about each one before you decide.
- Domain renewal: the address is renewed every year or every few years, and renewal pricing can differ from the first-year price.
- Hosting renewal: if the first year is bundled, find out what the second year costs and whether you can move the site elsewhere.
- Business email: addresses like [email protected] may need a separate paid mailbox service.
- Paid plugins or themes: some features rely on yearly licences that someone has to keep paying.
- Changes after launch: a new doctor joins, a course closes, the phone number changes. Someone has to update the site, and that time is usually charged under a maintenance plan or per job.
- Advertising budget: if you plan to run Google or Facebook ads to the site, the ad spend goes to the platform and is separate from any design or management fee.
Ask every designer the same question: "What will I pay in year two if I change nothing?" The answers are often more revealing than the launch price.
Questions to put to every designer before you compare
Send the same questions to each designer in writing. Their answers turn vague quotes into something you can compare, and the way they answer tells you how they will communicate during the project.
- Please list every page you have priced, by name.
- Who writes the text for each page, and how many rounds of edits are included?
- Is the design a theme adjusted for us or created for us? If it is a theme, which one, and is the licence included?
- Whose name will the domain be registered in, and will we receive the domain and hosting logins?
- What does hosting, domain and any licence cost to renew each year?
- Where will enquiries from the website arrive, and can we see a sample on a phone before launch?
- What does "SEO" in your quote include, item by item?
- What happens after launch: is there a free support period, and what does a maintenance plan cover?
- What do you need from us, and by when, for the site to go live on the date you have given?

A simple side-by-side sheet for your shortlist
Copy this into a notebook or spreadsheet and fill it in for each quote. Put a tick only when the item is written in the quote or confirmed in writing, not when it was mentioned on a call.
| Item | Quote A | Quote B | Quote C |
|---|---|---|---|
| Number of named pages | |||
| Content writing included | |||
| Theme or original design | |||
| Domain in our name | |||
| Hosting included (for how long) | |||
| Year-two renewal cost stated | |||
| Call, WhatsApp and form set up | |||
| SEO setup items listed | |||
| Logins handed over at launch | |||
| Support after launch (period and scope) | |||
| Launch date and what they need from us |
Once the sheet is filled in, the cheapest quote is often not the lowest total but the one that includes what you would otherwise pay for separately.
What meeting a Ranchi designer in person is useful for
Most website work can be done over phone, email and WhatsApp, and plenty of Ranchi businesses work with designers in other cities. Still, a local meeting has practical advantages. You can sit together and go through your page list, show printed brochures or rate cards, and agree the first screen of the site on a laptop rather than over a long chat thread. It also lets you see the designer's office and the people who will do the work.
If you are shortlisting, ask to see two or three websites the designer has built that are live today, and open them on your own phone during the meeting. A working site you can test, call from and fill a form on is better evidence than a portfolio slide or a search listing.
How MATROP prepares a website quote, and when we may not be the right fit
MATROP PRIVATE LIMITED has been building websites and software from Ranchi, Jharkhand since 2016. Our website design and development work follows the same order a good quote should: we first understand your business, audience, services and goals, then plan the sitemap and content, then move to design, development, security and speed work, and finally launch with basic training. Ongoing updates and backups can be added through a maintenance plan.
Because the quote follows that plan, it names the pages, says what is included for design and content, and lists hosting, domain and support separately so you can see what renews. We build business websites, school and institute sites, hospital and clinic sites, landing pages for ads, online stores and redesigns of older sites. For an example of a brand website we designed alongside back-office software, see the The Kabadi case study.
We may not be the right choice if you only need a single page to show your address and timings for the next few months. A well-filled Google Business Profile or a basic do-it-yourself builder may be enough for that, and you can come back when you are ready for proper service pages and enquiry tracking.
Questions people ask
Can I get a website quote from a Ranchi designer without meeting in person?
Yes. A phone call or WhatsApp chat plus a written page list is usually enough for a first quote. A meeting helps when the site has many services, an online store or several people who must approve it.
Should domain and hosting be in the same quote as the design?
They can be, but ask for them as separate lines with the renewal amount shown. That way you can see what you will pay again next year and confirm the domain is registered in your name.
Will a quote be lower if I give my own text and photos?
Often it will, because writing and photography are real work. Only do this if you can deliver the material on time, since late content is one of the most common reasons a launch slips.
Does MATROP publish fixed website packages?
We do not publish a price list for websites. We quote after understanding your pages, features and support needs, which you can share on the contact page or by phone.
